Untitled Novella, Part 1

Friday, January 9th, 2004

Rien tossed and turned in his bed, caught in the throes of a nightmare.

Half-formed shapes emerged from the mists, falling back again before Rien could see what they are. Mad voices gibbered, screaming things in incomprehensible languages, and, over it all, the Song rang out. The Song was strange. It soothed and calmed with its gentle tones. Yet, somehow, it was worrying. There was something very familiar about it. The famililarity of something that was close to the heart, once, but now was beyond one’s reach. The Song rose to a crecendo, and Rien felt something. That was it! He knew it! In the final chord of the Song it would all be revealed to him. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a voice spoke to him.

“Rien? Master Rien? Are you alright, sir?”

No! Not now! It was almost all there! The answer was almost revealed! The Song was dying now, retreating back into the mists. Going away. The mists start to glow. Brighter, and brighter, until the intense white light blots out everything else.

Rien sat bolt upright in bed.

“The Song!”

“What song, sir?”

Well, here it is…

I told you all I’d start writing an online novella sometime soon, so here’s the first part. It’s untitled at present, and here’s the neccesary disclaimer:

Many of the place names and character names in this online novella are taken, with permission, from the Dragonhunt, concieved, created, moulded, shaped, carved, cut and otherwise owned by Alan MacDougall (http://www.alanmacdougall.com/dragonhunt). He has graciously allowed me to use them, and the concept of my character, Rien from the latest Dragonhunt Campaign, in this story, and as such should be hailed as a great man.

Tonight has been one loooooong night…

One of my sisters just got a new Ericsson T610 mobile…and I’ve just spent the night setting up the software, transferring her contacts from her old phone, looking up a huge number of Orlando Bloom images (and she says she’s not obsessed), sending them to her phone too, and getting various LotR things too like ringtones and screensavers and stuff and sending them there too…

but, in the end, she was very happy with it…and I do like it when she’s happy, so I guess in the end it was worth it.

BTW: Soon I’ll be starting up an online story developed from the life history and things of that sort of the Dungeons and Dragons character I’ve been using recently. Watch for it, it promises to be a good read.

Happy new Year, Happy New Year.

I hope you all had a good night; didn’t get too drunk, had lots of fun with a group of good friends. Blah, blah, blah. Yada, yada, yada.

For this New Years Day, I have decided to post up the first of what I hope are a long series of tutorials on various subjects. It will be coming up in my next post, just as soon as I finish it. I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year first.

so…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
